This is currently my favorite model, a diorama recreating the scene from The Empire Strikes Back just before Luke's Snowspeeder gets stomped. It's based on the Revell "easy kit", which is far from easy if you want an accurate AT-AT. But it has one big thing going for it, it's BIG. I got it for about $20 thinking that it would be quick build in between more intense projects, but you know how that goes! I ended up spending about a year on it. Thankfully I had about 2 months off for paternity leave when my second daughter was born, so while mom and baby slept I greebled away on this diorama. In addition to the Revell AT-AT I used the Revell Snowspeeder pocket kit to represent Luke's crashed speeder.
Originally I just planned to build the AT-AT, but after seeing a few really nice builds on The RPF (danikin72, Baloo's amazing head blueprints, and Jun Austria's great build) I decided to finish this as a diorama. So, read on to find out how I accurized the AT-AT, pulled off the look of miniature snow, and built what I consider to be my best work yet!
As usual, the build log is divided into sections, click the links to see the details, or scroll down to view the gallery.
